Tom Walek is Senior Consultant, Strategic PR for Meyler Capital andFounder & Managing Partner of Peaks Strategies (www.peaksstrategies.com/).  Tom works closely with senior executives to design, develop and execute communications strategies that define, differentiate, promote and protect clients in a marketplace undergoing profound changes.

 

Tom is an award-winning pioneer in financial and capital markets communications.  In 1998, he founded Walek & Associates, a global financial and capital markets boutique serving multi-national brands and emerging leaders from offices in New York, Boulder and Hong Kong.   Walek received numerous awards and recognitions from organizations including HedgeWeek, PR Week, O’Dwyer’s, and The National Investor Relations Institute.  Walek sold his first agency in 2013 and exited the firm in early 2016.

 

Tom began his career as a financial journalist covering the global development and expansion of derivatives and capital markets from the trading floors of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

 

Tom is recognized as a financial public relations thought leader with his articles and white papers published in the CFA Institute’s “Enterprising Investor,” AIMA Journal and many others.

 

In 2015, Tom received The Hedge Fund Journal’s award for “Outstanding Contribution: Hedge Fund Media Communications” and previously was awarded Trout Unlimited’s “Conservation Award in Communications.”

 

Tom is a member of The National Press Club in Washington, DC, the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA) and the University of Colorado College of Media, Communications and Information Advisory Board.  He served on AIMA’s Communications and Global Communications committees from 2006-2014, and during that time chaired the AIMA sub-committee that authored the first edition of the “AIMA Guidelines to Media Relations for The Hedge Fund Industry.”   He served on the Managed Funds Association Communications Advisory Forum.

 

Tom has been a featured speaker in the US and internationally for organizations including the Association for Investment Management Sales Executives, Euromoney, Institutional Investor, AIMA, ComplianceAsia, Futures Industry Association, MAR Hedge, Institute for International Research, Financial Research Associates, InfoVest21 and the University of Colorado Graduate School of Integrated Marketing Communications.   Tom is the only PR executive featured in Jack Schwager’s New Market Wizards and Richard Blake’s Diary of a Hedge Fund Manager. 

 

A native of Pennsylvania, Tom grew up in Connecticut and graduated cum laude in journalism from the University of Colorado, Boulder, including a year of study at the University of Lancaster, UK.  While in Chicago, he attended the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.
